How come James Cameron doesn't return to direct the third Terminator 3?

James Cameron is the best director ever but unfortunate he didn't direct for no reason and had no other project left in the 21t century. Terminator 3 was directed by a someone else but instead wasn't well received. Why did not James direct the third one? Can anyone explains why he did not return to direct the third one?
